Ron Dayne and Great Dane Rescue of WisconsinGreat Dane Rescue of Wisconsin

Every year, millions of pets who are unwanted, neglected or abused are turned over to humane societies across the nation. They may be surrendered by their owners, found at large by animal control, or seized from abusing owners. There are more pets surrendered than can be cared for by animal shelters and many are destroyed when their time is up to make room for incoming animals.

We are a volunteer organization that retrieves Great Danes and houses them, allowing time to evaluate their personalities and to spay/neuter them before placing them. Our goal is to place the Great Danes into permanent, safe and loving homes. By specializing in a breed, we are small enough that we are able to keep the dog as long as it takes until a home is found. Since we are Great Dane owners and/or breeders ourselves, we can evaluate a dog and help a prospective family make an informed decision on a pet.

What Are Rescue Danes Like?

Great Danes are "people dogs"; they are sensitive, intuitive, intelligent and affectionate. The love you give to a Dane will be returned threefold. Because of their temperament, and the fact that they are generally clean and quiet, they mike ideal house pets. The are very devoted to their family. Each of these dogs has some special characteristic that will tell what sort of home is best for them and their new family.

Many of our rescue Danes come from individuals who surrender their dog for various reasons. Others come from humane societies when they can no longer be kept there.

All of our dogs are evaluated for temperament to ensure the best placement for our adoptive families.

For more information on the the Great Dane breed, and whether a Dane is for you, check with your local breed club, rescue organization, or check out the links listed on this web site. Plan to spend some time with adult Danes before you decide to get one.

To adopt a Great Dane, call 608-839-3411 or apply ONLINE  ...

... or call one of our representatives listed on the Wisconsin Great Dane Rescue contact page.

When you talk to a Rescue Representative, she or he will have you fill out an application over the phone, or mail one to you. After your application is reviewed, an appointment will be made to introduce you to Great Danes that we feel will fit well with your lifestyle and family. If we have no dogs at the time that will be a good match, we will keep your application on file and call you as more dogs come in.

At the time of adoption, a contract between the adopting family and Great Dane Rescue of Wisconsin is made to ensure the safety and well-being of the Dane. We require that all of our dogs be kept as indoor pets and kept up on all of their vaccinations and veterinary checks.

All Great Dane Rescue dogs are spayed or neutered before placement to prevent more unwanted Danes.
